Herewith is a news story published online from ComicArtFans.com regarding our auction house, http://www.NateDSanders.com.  They mention how we handled the Chic Young estate featuring his Blondie comic art.  We also sold Chic Young’s personal comic art collection including Buster Brown and Prince Valiant.

Comic Art News: Over 200 Blondie Comic Strips From the Chic Young Estate to be Auctioned

LOS ANGELES, April 13, 2016 – Over 200 Blondie comic strips by Chic Young will be auctioned by Nate D. Sanders on April 28, 2016. The comic strips were personally chosen by Dean Young, who took over the Blondie comic strip in 1973 upon the death of his father and the strip’s creator, Chic Young. Interested bidders may participate in the auction online.

Strips begin in January, 1931 and include Day 9 of Dagwood’s Famous “Hunger Strike”, Blondie in her wedding dress, Dagwood getting married by proxy to Blondie’s roommate Irma, and Blondie and Dagwood renewing their vows at a Justice of the Peace. They continue for over 4 decades to include the birth of Baby Dumpling and Cookie, and plenty of Dagwood Sandwiches along the way.

In addition to the comic strips, some lots include preliminary pencil sketches by Chic Young, corresponding to the finished strip. The winning bidder of each lot will also receive a Blondie booklet inscribed by Dean Young. This booklet documents the genesis of the Blondie comics, and how the Bumstead family both represented and adapted to the American experience of the 20th century – through the Great Depression, post-war prosperity, and shifts in the cultural landscape.

Dean Young said of the comic strips: “My dad, Chic Young, was a genius! His talent for storytelling and artistic skills are still unmatched today. He once said that he found the magic formula for creating Blondie by simply restricting his premises to: eating, sleeping, going to work, and raising a family.

Chic set the bar of excellence at the highest level…it is still the level we strive to achieve in the modern Blondie comic strip of today. And today, the Blondie comic strip is one of the most popular comic strips in the world appearing in 2,300 newspapers all around the world. Blondie is translated into 35 different languages in 55 countries and read by an estimated 280,000,000 people every day.”

The success and popularity of the Blondie comic strips also spawned a series of highly successful feature films by Columbia Pictures just before and during WWII. In fact, after 14 films, Columbia decided to retire the series in 1943, but the public outcry was such that Columbia made an additional 14 movies, released from 1945-1950.
