Babe Ruth autograph and Lou Gehrig signed photograph. 5″ x 7″ black and white image depicts the two Yankee greats standing side by side on the baseball field wearing their pinstripe pants. Inscribed by Ruth in brown ink at the upper left, “For Walter from, ‘Babe’ Ruth” beside which Gehrig signs in black ink, “& Lou Gehrig”. Small .25″ tear (with no emulsion loss) at top, not affecting either signature, else fine. A difficult to acquire pairing of legendary signatures on a single photograph.  A Babe Ruth signature with the quotation marks around “Babe” typifies his pre-1928 autograph and will sell at a higher value as well.  Sold for $19,036.

Babe Ruth autograph and Lou Gehrig autograph on a baseball. On the sweet spot, Ruth’s black ink penning reveals sizable upper-case “B” and “R” characters. Gehrig signature in black ink on adjacent panel. The presence of Johnson’s facsimile signature, under which penmanship removal can be seen, coupled with the quotation marks around “Babe” (in Ruth’s own hand, of course) likely date the keepsake to 1927, as Johnson was supplanted by Barnard in 1928, the same year Ruth abandoned the use of quotation marks. The medium-toned sphere features prominent stampings and vibrant, alternating red and blue laces. Accompanied by Letters of Authenticity from PSA/DNA and James Spence Authentication attesting that the Babe Ruth autograph is authentic.  Sold for $10,470.

Babe Ruth autograph on a beautiful Official American League (Harridge) baseball. Strong 2.5″ long blue ink signature has been rated a 6 by PSA/DNA while the unused off-white ball has been rated 5. Ball is personalized “To Susan Felknor From Babe Ruth”. On the opposite side of the ball an unknown hand has written “7/25/47”. The ball was obtained by an advertising executive while attending a public relations event at Yankee Stadium. A very eye appealing Babe Ruth single signed baseball. Babe Ruth autograph and Lou Gehrig autograph on a baseball. On 4 July 1928 the New York Yankees and the Washington Senators met at Griffith Stadium to play a doubleheader. During the course of that day, the Bambino and the Iron Horse applied their autographs to this clean Official American League “Barnard” ball. The Babe’s lengthy side panel inscription rates a PSA 8 and reads “To Joseph Rebentisch, Washington D.C., From ‘Babe’ Ruth.” Gehrig simply signed his name in a lighter but still entirely legible ink. The date “7/4/28” is penned below Gehrig’s signature in an unknown hand. Lot accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA stating that the Babe Ruth autograph is authentic.  Sold for $7,500.

1920’s sports and celebrity autograph book featuring a Babe Ruth autograph page, Lou Gehrig signed page, Walter Johnson signed page Walter Hagen, the 1926 Washington Senators, Enrico Caruso and many more. Ruth’s black ink signature reads “‘Babe’ Ruth (signed)/ Sep 7 – 1927.” Gehrig’s black ink signature reads “Lou Gehrig (signed)/Fenway Park / Sept. 4, 1927.” Some signatures accompanied by doodles. Leatherette book measures 4″ x 5″ and contains 120pp. filled with signatures from cover to cover. Autograph book originally belonged to a boy named Charles Francis Richard. “Autographs” printed on cover in gilt and “Elite Autograph Album” printed on title page. Some wear to cover, especially at corners, and looseness to binding, but book remains intact. Interior has toning, some spots and stains, yet all signatures bold and clear. An excellent Babe Ruth autograph page and a fine Lou Gehrig signed page.  Sold for $7,300.

Babe Ruth Autograph on a Typed Letter Regarding The Cancer That Would Kill Him a Year Later — “Having friends does mean so very much to me and during my recent illness, I had more than ample proof” — With PSA/DNA COA

Babe Ruth autograph on a typed letter dated 7 April 1947 on Babe Ruth stationery. In the months before this letter, Ruth had been hospitalized for throat cancer, one of many hospitalizations he would experience before his death the following year. He received an outpouring of concern from people such as the recipient of this letter, Mrs. Hazel M. Colson, who had written to “The Babe” expressing her good wishes. Ruth’s reply reads in part: “My sincere thanks go to you and your family for your very kind letter and good wishes. Having friends does mean so very much to me, and during my recent illness, I had more than ample proof…” He signs boldly in black ink: “Babe Ruth”. The 7″ x 9.75″ one page letter has expected folds and minor soiling, else very good. With PSA/DNA COA stating that the Babe Ruth autograph is authentic.  Sold for $5,000.

This official Southern League baseball features the Babe Ruth autograph in black ink on the sweet spot and Gehrig’s, also in black ink at the top of the west panel. The ball is heavily toned and soiled, but both signatures remain quite legible. A screw hole appears in the middle of the manufactures stamp above Gehrig’s signature, where a hook for a hanging display was once secured. Accompanied by Certificate of Authenticity  from PSA/DNA attesting that the Babe Ruth autograph is authentic.  Sold for $4,556.

Signed clearly across the sweet spot “Babe Ruth” in blue ink. Gehrig’s “Lou Gehrig” signature is faint, though distinguishable. Ball is generally bright with a few scuffs and marks. Autographed program from the 1938 Baseball Writer’s Association of America awards dinner, signed by Yankees’ Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Joe McCarthy, Ed Barrow and owner Jacob Ruppert, who famously bought Babe Ruth from the Boston Red Sox in 1919. The New York Giants Hall of Fame first baseman Bill Terry also signs the program, which lists the dinner as being an ”Eating and Oratorical Contest”. Held yearly in New York, the spirited dinner awards Most Valuable Player, Manager of the Year and more. Measures 6.5” x 9.75”, with signatures in pencil on the back of the single page program. Babe Ruth signed 2″ x 4″ photo. Ruth, shown in his Boston Braves uniform, signs “Babe Ruth” at the bottom of the photo. He played with the Braves for only one year, the 1935 season, before retiring from baseball. “1936” is written on the verso of the photo. This was the year “the Bambino” was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame — one of the very first five members. Significant fading to photo, not affecting signature, else very good. Excellent signed glossy photo by the Sultan of Swat. Black and white photo depicts the baseball legend swinging in his Yankees uniform during a game. Signed diagonally beneath his stance, “Babe Ruth” in black ink. Printed caption beneath photo reads: “Consultant / Ford Motor Company / American Legion Junior Baseball”. Babe Ruth signed and inscribed first edition of the biography, “The Babe Ruth Story” by Bob Considine. E.P. Dutton: New York: 1948. Very strong blue ink inscription reads, “To Stuart Felsen / From Babe Ruth” on the title page. Inside pages are very clean and in near fine condition, with 49 photo plates, illustrations and pictorial endpapers. Dustjacket is missing. Exterior is generally clean with the back showing some wear. Backstrip is detached, though easily restored. Accompanied by PSA/DNA COA.  Sold for $3,150.

Babe Ruth signed postcard postmarked 12 March 1938 as a new Baseball Hall of Famer. He was among the first 5 ever inducted in 1936. Postcard is inscribed: “Sincerely / Babe Ruth”. Measures 5.5″ x 3.25″. Toning with evidence of mounting to verso. Very good. Included in the lot is a glossy 8″ x 10″ photo of Ruth on the baseball diamond. Adhesive residue to verso and light creasing near lower right, else near fine. A strong signature by baseball’s greatest with PSA/DNA COA.  Sold for $2,960.

Excellent photo of the Babe, signed “To my good friend Dan / From Babe Ruth”. Photo’s verso is stamped “Thorne Photo”, the official Yankees photographer. Photo measures 10″ x 8″ and is in very good to near fine condition with a few light nicks at edges and one indiscernible crease to lower right. Accompanied by PSA/DNA COA which grades the signature a 5, with some portions of inscription, especially “Babe” having light ink. Charming photo signed by Babe Ruth.  Sold for $2,310.
