Walt Disney Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Cel Art — Beautiful, Near Fine Condition

Original Walt Disney Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs cel art from 1937. Despite Hollywood snickering that “Snow White” would be “Disney’s folly” and bankrupt his studio, the prescient animator forged ahead to create the first-ever fully animated feature film. Three years into its making, when resources ran dry, he had to secure emergency funding by showing a rough cut of the film to bank executives. When it finally premiered in December 1937, Disney silenced his critics through the audience’s reaction, which gave the film a standing ovation and singularly ushered in the Golden Age of Animation. In this cel, Snow White communes with a little band of forest creatures who become her faithful allies as the story unfolds. This Courvoisier set-up cel is affixed to paperboard and matted, with “Snow White” inscribed in pencil to the outer mat. Printed slips affixed to verso read “Original Work From Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” and “This Material Inflammable / Handle With Care / Frame Under Glass / Copyright 1937 / Walt Disney Enterprises”. Artwork measures 7″ x 7.5″, matted to an overall size of 9.5″ x 11.75″. Near fine.  Sold for $7,199.

Very rare Walt Disney signed reproduction Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs cel art. Beautiful full “Walt Disney” signature, with a flourish, appears on the mat surrounding the illustration from “Snow White,” Disney’s exceptionally successful and groundbreaking film. Despite Hollywood snickering that “Snow White” would be “Disney’s folly” and bankrupt his studio, the prescient animator forged ahead to create the first-ever fully animated feature film. Three years into its making, when resources ran dry, he had to secure emergency funding by showing a rough cut of the film to bank executives. When it finally premiered in December 1937, Disney silenced his critics through the audience’s reaction, which gave the film a standing ovation and singularly ushered in the Golden Age of Animation. This reproduction cel, though not original, is an early rendering, circa 1940’s and measures 10″ x 8″. Cream-colored mat measures 16.75″ x 15.75″. In very good condition, with light creasing to the mat.  Rare to find a Walt Disney autograph on a Snow White cel.  Sold for $6,500.

Original animation cel from Disney’s 1937 classic ”Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” featuring the Evil Queen as the old hag mixing a diabolical potion in her cauldron. Cel is comprised of two layers, the first showing the Queen in her entirety, and then the cauldron on the top-most layer. Disney label on verso reads “Original Work From Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs…Copyright 1937 / Walt Disney Enterprises”. Artwork measures 9.5″ x 10.5″. Paint on cauldron is cracked, and a closed tear to black paper background. Overall very good condition.              Sold for $5,250.

From the collection of Ray Bradbury, his original Walt Disney Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs cel art. In this cel, five of the lovable dwarfs stand around a water basin. Matted with a background that highlights their shadows on the wall behind them. Cel measures 11.25” x 8.5”. Framed to an overall size of 19” x 17”. Some fading with peeling and separation of paint, otherwise very good. With a COA from the Ray Bradbury estate.  Sold for $3,750.

Original Walt Disney Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs cel art of Grumpy from 1937.  Image painted on celluloid features the dwarf with a scowl on his face. Verso of cell reads “Original Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs. This material is flammable handle with care, frame under glass, Copyright 1937 Walt Disney Enterprises.” Back cover of frame is marked “Haley & Steele Art Dealers.” Animation cell measures 5.25″ x 7.25″; frame measures 9″ x 10″. Overall excellent condition.  An intriguing piece from this classic Disney fairytale.  Sold for $1,956.
