As rare and expensive as a Jackson Pollock authentic and original oil on canvas is, a Pollock autograph seems to be just as rare, although a lot less expensive. I mean, a lot less expensive. Here are two Pollock autograph checks that we have sold:
Jackson Pollock Autograph on His Check
Check signed “Jackson Pollack” in black ink. Check from the Osborne Trust Company, East Hampton, NY is dated 15 March, 1954 and made out by hand, possibly Pollack’s, to the Director of Internal Revenue in the amount of $156. Signatures of this reclusive artist who struggled with alcoholism for most of his life are virtually non-existent. Two years after signing this check Pollack perished in a car wreck. Measures 6.25″ x 2.75″. Standard bank cancellations. Near fine. Sold for $5,353.
Pollock Signed Check
Check signed ”Jackson Pollock” in black ink. Check from the Osborne Trust Company, East Hampton, NY is dated 16 March 1953 and made out in hand by Pollock to the Director of Internal Revenue in the amount of $41. Signatures of this reclusive artist who struggled with alcoholism for most of his life are virtually non-existent. Three years after signing this check Pollack perished in a car wreck. Measures 6.25” x 2.75”. Standard bank cancellations. Near fine. Sold for $4,375.
