Russell Crowe’s Own Gladiator Costume Worn in the Modern Classic ”Gladiator” — Film Won Five Academy Awards Including Best Actor, Best Film & Best Costume Designer

Costume worn by Russell Crowe in the 2000 historical-fiction epic film ”Gladiator”, one of the most successful movies of all time. Crowe won the Academy Award for his performance as Roman general Maximus Decimus Meridias. Jany Yates also won for Best Costume Design, and the film itself won Best Picture. Arena costume includes a full-length sleeveless tunic in oatmeal colored burlap, lined in off-white cloth, with thick brown distressed leather belt by Cornejo of Madrid. Near fine. Accompanied by a 14” x 11” lobby card depicting Crowe in costume in a gladiator arena scene. With Prop Store COA.  From our Gladiator costume auction.  Sold for $15,786.

Screen-Worn Costume From ”Gladiator” — The Moroccan Arena Scenes

”Gladiator” screen-worn costume from the Moroccan arena. Russell Crowe starred in the 2000 epic as a Roman general who finds himself in the throes of deadly combat as a gladiator. This 4-piece ensemble includes a sackcloth tunic, a wide leather belt, crude lace-up boots and a prop sword. It was shown in the scene when Crowe and his fellow gladiators are dabbed with yellow paint to connote their classification. All items have been distressed by production with abrasions, staining or paint, else near fine. With provenance from Profiles in History.  From our Gladiator costume auction.  Sold for $2,772.

Screen-Worn Costume From ”Gladiator”

Russell Crowe’s “Gladiator” Screen-Worn Tunic

The tunic worn onscreen by Russell Crowe in the 2000 historical epic film “Gladiator”. He won the Academy Award for his performance in the leading role as Roman general Maximus Decimus Meridias. Jany Yates also won for Best Costume Design, and the film itself won Best Picture. Sleeveless, knee-legth woven tunic has a label sewn in with “Max” hand-written in ink. Includes a letter of authenticity on The Golden Closet letterhead signed by Michael Castellano, Personal Set Costumer to Russell Crowe on the film. Lot also includes two 8″ x 10″ semi-matte stills featuring the costume as it appeared onscreen. Some dust and soiling to tunic from use in filming, else fine.  From our Gladiator costume auction.  Sold for $2,090.
