William Faulkner First edition, first printing of the breakthrough novel, ”The Sound and the Fury” in the first printing dust jacket with ”Humanity Uprooted” listed for sale at $3.00 on the rear. New York: Jonathan Cape & Harrison Smith, 1929: Book and jacket are both in very good condition: hinges are starting on book and there is some bumping to boards. Dust jacket is sunned on the spine, 1.5” closed tear on spine fold and light soiling, but fully intact with no paper loss. Measures 5.5” x 7.75”. Copy is from the collection of noted Faulkner collector Clifton Waller Barrett, with his armorial bookplate on the front pastedown. Housed in a custom clamshell box. One of the most important William Faulkner first edition books.

Southern American writer signed William Faulkner first edition, first printing of his “Sanctuary,” published by Jonathan Cape & Harrison Smith: New York: 1931. The winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature and two-time Pulitzer Prize-winner inscribes the fly-leaf: “Dr. A. J. Liebmann / William Faulkner / New York / 17 March 1943” in black ink. Faulker’s dark tale of murder runs 380pp., bound in gray cloth boards with fuchsia paper accents and fuchsia lettering. Top edge black. Slight wear to board edges and minor cocking to spine, else near fine. The scarce, original dustjacket features a geometric printed design in black, white and blue. Negligible staining to panels and light wear to the edges. Chipping to the top edge of the spine leaves with small paper loss. Very good condition. Our most expensive William Faulkner first edition. Sold for $8,512.75.
William Faulkner first edition signed, “Notes on a Horse Thief.” Levee Press: Greenville, MS: 1950. William Faulkner first edition, issued as a limited edition of 950 copies of which this is number 507, is signed “William Faulkner” on the rear fly-leaf. Issued without a dustjacket, book is bound in pine green boards with a silver illustration of a horse on the front board and silver titling to spine. One half of the illustrated front endpaper has been torn off, and a small label appears on the half title page, otherwise in near fine condition. Sold for $828.93.
Novel that won William Faulkner the Pulitzer Prize, “A Fable” signed William Faulkner first edition, first printing on rag paper, published by Random House: New York: 1954. Faulkner pens in blue ink, “William Faulkner” upon the fly-leaf. Faulkner spent over a decade and tremendous effort on “A Fable,” considering it his masterpiece when it was completed. 437pp. novel measures 6″ x 9″ in original slipcase. Slight chipping and toning to rice paper dustjacket and some soiling and toning to the slipcase. Book itself is in near fine condition. Sold for $784.
Author-signed, limited edition of William Faulkner’s novel/play hybrid “Requiem For A Nun.” Random House: New York: 1951. Number 118 of 750 copies, signed “William Faulkner” on the fly-leaf. Original, marbled boards with gilt lettering. 286pp. book measures 5.5″ x 8.25″. Wear along backstrip and dampstaining on front free endpaper, fly-leaf and along fore edge. Inscription from previous owner on front free endpaper. Very good condition with a tight binding. Sold for $780.38.

Rare William Faulkner first edition, “The Town: A Novel of the Snopes Family” by William Faulkner. New York: Random House: 1957. First printing in first issue dust wrapper. Octavo runs 371pp. Copy includes first issue’s misprinted text on page 327. Red cloth boards with gilt and grey rules to front cover and spine. Price-clipped dust wrapper has minor chips and toning. Jacket has “5/57” printed to front flap and Faulkner’s photo and biographical sketch to back. Scarce copy in very good condition. Sold for $361.65

William Faulkner first edition of “Pylon”. New York: Harrison Smith And Robert Haas, Inc.: 1935. Duodecimo runs 315pp. and includes original color dustjacket. One of Faulkner’s few novels not set in Yoknapatawpha County, “Pylon” takes place at an air show in a thinly disguised New Orleans. Blue cloth boards with gilt title on black band. Minimal chipping to spine of dustjacket and a small 1/2″ diagonal tear. Original selling price stamped to rear free endpaper. Very good condition. Sold for $325.
