Gemini Flight Data Recorder

Project Gemini remains one of the most important NASA programs in space history, as it helped develop travel techniques later utilized in each of the Apollo missions.

We have in our current auction a very rare Gemini Flight Data Recorder. 

Each of the Gemini flights was launched by Titan II launch vehicles. There were two unmanned Gemini flights in 1964 and 1965, followed by ten manned flights in 1965 and 1966.

The project’s objectives were met and Gemini achieved missions long enough for a trip to the Moon and back, perfected extra-vehicular activity, and orbital maneuvers necessary to achieve rendezvous and docking.

This data recorder was utilized in one of those important missions.

NASA Gemini Flight Data Recorder — Made by Lockheed

This very rare NASA flight data recorder was used in the Gemini project.

The heavy metal box bears a label from NASA ”Property of Goddard Space Flight Center / 164218” as well as a Lockheed label inscribed ”Recorder Type IX” with the following serial identifications: ”P/N 1357274-505 / CCA 12080104 / AF 04(695)1[?]29, and ”LS8635001”.

Also includes a sticker at center worn away with the word ”test” remaining. In addition to the labels, the top bears large red stenciled lettering reading, ”FLY BY NO. 2”. Also handwritten ”3-10” and the numbers ”7016” twice.

On the side are two plug terminals and an hour counter gauge showing plenty of use. Box measures 10.5” x 4” x 8.5” and weighs 10 pounds, 10 ounces. An exceptionally rare NASA item.
