UEFA Champions League Memorabilia Up For Auction
UEFA Champions League
Call it football or call it soccer, either way, soccer memorabilia remains hot in the auction world, particularly English Premiere League items.
We have in our March auction this very rare European Cup Winners’ medal —
European Cup Winners’ Soccer Medal Issued in 1991 to Football Club Manchester United’s Mark Robins
The medal was from the 1991 UEFA final and was issued to player Mark Robins of the victorious Manchester United following their 15 May 1991 match in Rotterdam against Barcelona.
Check out highlights from the epic game!
Manchester beat Barcelona 2-1 in the very close game.
Gold tone metal medal features a trophy cup to obverse, inscribed, ”UEFA” around the border and the reverse reads, ”Coupe Des / Vanqueurs / De Coupe / Europeene / 1991”.
With a tiny Kramer maker’s mark to obverse and provenance from Christie’s Football Memorabilia auction, held 27 September 2001 in South Kensington, Lot 28.
Robins was a striker from 1986-2005 and played a crucial part in helping Manchester United win in 1990 — which was the first trophy of manager Alex Ferguson’s reign at the club. He scored the winning goal in the semi-final replay against Oldham Athletic. That same season he scored seven First Division goals and a further two in the FA Cup, bringing his tally that season to nine in all competitions. A true legendary striker in his own right.
