Exceedingly Rare First Printing Dusjacket of ”The Great Gatsby” — Much More Rare Than the Legendary Novel It Houses

Rare first edition, first printing of one of the most desired books in the history of literature, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s ”The Great Gatsby,” published by Charles Scribner’s Sons: New York: 1925, with the nearly impossible to find first printing dustjacket. Every point is present: 1925 is printed on title page; Charles Scribner’s Sons logo appears on the copyright page with no subsequent printing statements; ”chatter” appears on page 60; ”northern” appears on page 119; ”it’s” is printed on line 16 of page 165; ”sick in tired” is found on page 205; ”Union Street station” is mistyped on line 7-8 of page 211. Bound in dark green cloth boards with title and author’s name blind-stamped to front board and gilt lettering to spine. Francis Cugat’s scarce original unrestored first printing dustjacket has the lowercase ”j” in ”jay Gatsby” on the back panel hand-corrected in ink.

Presidential Medal of Freedom With Distinction Awarded to Robert McNamara — Secretary of Defense for Both Presidents Kennedy & Johnson

Incredibly scarce Presidential Medal of Freedom with Distinction awarded to 1960’s Defense Secretary Robert McNamara. This is the highest civilian honor awarded in the United States. Its recipients are chosen by the President, and Lyndon B. Johnson bestowed this award on McNamara in 1968. His position as Secretary of Defense during the Vietnam War and Cuban Missile Crisis made him one of the most high-profile, influential and controversial public figures of the 20th century. McNamara later became president of the World Bank and advocated a cautious approach to nuclear arms. As a special grade of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, awarded ”with Distinction”, this is a larger medal than its counterpart, measuring 3.25” in diameter. Medal with enamel design features a white five-point star surrounded by five eagles with wings spread and a blue center dotted with stars. Accompanied by a sash meant to be worn across the right shoulder.

The Batsuit Worn by Michael Keaton in ”Batman” From 1989 — Measures Over 7′ Tall on Custom Display

Michael Keaton’s Batsuit from Tim Burton’s hit superhero film “Batman”, released in 1989. Batsuit in formed black rubber segments applied to stretchy black fabric includes textured integral cape and cowl style mask, with long black leather gloves, boots and gold plastic belt and bat symbol. A tag within is labeled, “Michael Keaton #1”. Costume comes displayed dramatically on a mannequin with chiseled face of Keaton, mounted to a grey plaster rock ground with blind stamped bat symbol at front center, measuring 32″ across the bottom of the base and 7′ in total height. Batsuit measures 22″ across the shoulders. Scattered cracking to rubber, else near fine. Provenance from the Hollywood: A Collectors Ransom 5 auction by Profiles in History, held 12 December 1998, lot 183.

Amazing Movie Memorabilia From ”Jaws” — Life Jackets Worn by Richard Dreyfuss, Robert Shaw, Roy Scheider and Steven Spielberg — Call Sheets & Dozens of Photos

Lot of ”Jaws” memorabilia and props used on set, including life jackets worn by Steven Spielberg and his cast, call sheets and an album of behind-the-scenes photos. The classic horror tale about a man-eating shark was filmed at Menemsha, a fishing village on Martha’s Vineyard in 1974 and enjoyed record success in gross revenue.

Babe Didrikson Zaharias Personally Owned Golf Clubs Used in the Tam O’Shanter Tournaments — Named Female Athlete of the 20th Century by the Associated Press

Babe Didrikson Zaharias personally owned and tournament-used golf club set. The legendary athlete used these in the Tam O’Shanter’s All American Tournaments where she often emerged victorious. Set of MacGregor Tommy Armour clubs was used by Zaharias until she finalized her endorsement deal with Wilson Sporting Goods Co., and comprises: (1-2) 985T 9 Irons, (3-6) 653T Woods, (7) 152T Double Service P.P. Wedge, (8) Silver Scot #11 Wedge, (9) IMG Iron Master Putter. All housed in a Hughes patented pipe organ golf bag with four matching headcovers. With a metal tag naming ”Henry Bolesta / Golf Professional” and Zaharias’ name filled in. Bolesta was a well-known golf pro of the era and often played with Zaharias. Clubs measure 36” in length. Very good to near fine. Accompanied by two photos of Zaharias with her clubs and an LOA from the Babe Zaharias Golf Foundation.

 L. Frank Baum Signed and Dedicated ”Wonderful Wizard of Oz” — With Scarce Poem Handwritten by Baum — ”…Mosquitoes charm me / They cannot harm me / For I am Mr. Dooley-ooley-oo!…”

”The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” by L. Frank Baum, illustrated by W.W. Denslow. Chicago: George Hill Company: 1900. First edition, second state, signed by the author. Baum inscribes on the author list leaf: ”’Twas Mr Dooley dear Mr Dooley, / He said: ‘I’ll live and die in Waukazoo / Mosquitoes charm me / They cannot harm me / For I am Mr. Dooley-ooley-oo! / August 17th / 1902 / L. Frank Baum.” The book is in the second state, and in binding variant C. Included in the lot is a letter of provenance from the granddaughter of the original recipient Dorothy Lake. It explains that her grandmother was 11 years old in 1902 and went on a holiday every summer to Waukazoo on the shores of Lake Michigan. Baum was reportedly charmed by Miss Lake and by the coincidence of meeting a real Dorothy in the same resort area in which he wrote portions of ”The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.”

 Joan Crawford’s Polka-Dot Hero Dress From ”Mildred Pierce” — The Film That Won Her the Academy Award & Considered One of the Greatest Performances by an Actress in the History of Cinema

Joan Crawford’s hero dress from her magnum opus, “Mildred Pierce”. Joan Crawford currently ranks in the American Film Institute’s top ten actresses in the history of cinema. Polka-dot dress is worn by Crawford in the film’s promotional posters, in a still captured from the scene in the beginning of the film when she goes on a date, set at the Malibu beach house of her scheming beau Monte Beragon. Rayon dress, originally white, has since been dyed to a flesh tone color, with polka dots in a darker nude shade. Design features a slightly A-line cut shirt, long sleeves, pleated bodice and square neckline flanked by a simple bow on either side. A Warner Bros. Pictures label is sewn into the placket and has a hand note, “B – 2nd Dress / 18905-638”.

 Incredibly Rare & Unique John F. Kennedy Owned Bottle of Scotch — Sealed Bottle of Haig & Haig Pinch Scotch — Given to President Kennedy as an Inauguration Gift

Bottle of Haig & Haig Pinch scotch owned by John F. Kennedy as President. The bottle served as an inaugural gift when he won the 1960 Presidential election. Lot includes a pair of handwritten receipts for liquor ordered by Jackie Kennedy, the first while JFK was campaigning for the Presidency as a Senator, and the second, while he was President, with the delivery address, ”The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue”. The distinctive scotch blend comes in its original illustrated paper Christmas box, addressed to ”Honorable John F. Kennedy”. Accompanied by a ”Steuben Glass Corning Glass Center” label, presumably the senders of the gift.

Adolf Hitler Signed Copies of His ”Mein Kampf” — Both Volumes Including a 1st Edition of Volume II, Signed by Hitler in 1925, Inscribed to Future SS Leader Josef Bauer

Fascinating two-volume set of Hitler’s ”Mein Kampf,” each volume signed ”Adolf Hitler” by the Nazi Fuhrer following his release from prison for high treason, and shortly after his public speaking ban had been lifted. Both volumes published by Franz Eher Nachfolger: Munich: 1926-1927. Volume II is a first edition and Volume I is a second edition; each volume contains a pre-publication presentation inscription by Hitler to Josef Bauer, one of the first members (#34) of the Nazi party and one of the leaders of the Beer Hall Putsch in 1923, when Hitler and his cohorts attempted to overthrow the Bavarian government by gunpoint.

”Ben-Hur” Costume Worn Onscreen in The Legendary Chariot Race Scenes — One of The Most Breathtaking Sequences in Cinematic History

”Ben-Hur” screen-worn costume from the grandiose chariot race sequence. Its impressive appearance is the result of grand-scale production; MGM risked a record-breaking $15 million on its ultimately blockbusting Biblical epic in a last-ditch effort to stave off bankruptcy. The elaborate million-dollar chariot race sequence, set in a Jerusalem circus, was shot near Rome, Italy on an 18-acre lot at Cinecitta Studios.

Fine Leather Bolero Jacket Personally Owned & Worn by Michael Jackson — — With a COA From Henry Vaccaro

Michael Jackson personally owned and worn leather bolero jacket. The pop king’s signature double-breasted jacket features silver tone metal buttons and silver scrolling design around the cuffs. Shoulders feature epaulette decorations with three stripes in silver plating. Made by David Laurenz, New York & Paris, of buttery black suede with silver leather trim at the lapels. Measures 17” across the chest. Near fine. With a COA from well-known Jackson collector Henry V. Vaccaro who states this jacket came from Michael’s personal wardrobe trunk. Quintessential Michael Jackson.

G.T. Beauregard Bids Farewell to His Army of the Potomac Whom He Led at Bull Run — ”…I cannot quit you without…deep anxiety, in the moment of our country’s trials and dangers…”

Civil War Confederate General G.T. Beauregard autograph manuscript signed, leaving his Army of the Potomac, the first established Army of the Confederacy whom Beauregard — the Confederacy’s first Brigadier General — led at First Bull Run. Having been transferred to the Army of the Tennessee, Beauregard writes from ”Head Quarters 1st Corps A of P Near Centreville” on 30 January 1862: ”…You are now undergoing the severest trial of a soldier’s life…”

Wilbur Shaw’s 1935 Indianapolis 500 Jacket — Given to Him as an Inaugural Member of The ”Champion 100 Mile an Hour Club” — From the Wilbur Shaw Estate

Wilbur Shaw’s ”Champion 100 Mile an Hour Club” jacket. Bomber jacket was awarded to Shaw in 1935, as one of the very first 12 Indianapolis 500 drivers to finish the entire 500 miles without relief at a remarkable average speed in excess of 100 miles per hour. The club was founded in 1935 by Champion ad executive, M.C. deWitt as the ”Champion Spark Plugs 100 mph Club”. Fully-lined brown leather jacket features a yellow Club applique on the front and a patch sewn within, embroidered with Shaw’s name. Its label identifies the leather as genuine pony skin and its brand as Knopf Sportswear. Wear and fading, with some scattered fraying to lining and knit cuffs, else near fine. Heath Ledger Plaid Shirt & Undershirt From ”Brokeback Mountain” — With a COA From Focus Features

Heath Ledger wardrobe from ”Brokeback Mountain”. Three years before his untimely death at age 28, the actor delivered an acclaimed performance in the 2005 drama as Ennis Del Mar, a rural man who falls in love with another man. These shirts were worn by Ledger during the scene in which Ennis informs Jake Gyllenhaal’s character that he didn’t plan to sleep with him again.

Fantastic Marilyn Monroe Signed 8” x 10” Photo — ”…Love & Kisses…” — With COA’s From Both PSA/DNA & JSA

Marilyn Monroe 8” x 10” photo signed. Flirtatious photo of the curvy screen legend shows Marilyn posing with a guitar in fishnet stockings, likely from her 1954 film, ”River of No Return”. Marilyn inscribes the photo in green ink, ”To Dwane / Love & Kisses / Marilyn Monroe”. Some creasing and a near invisible .25” of surface loss to the L of ”Marilyn”. Overall in very good condition. Has restoration. Accompanied by COA’s from both PSA/DNA and JSA.

Pair of Jackie Kennedy’s shoes in the court-style that she revived. Black leather heels feature a ruffled flourish near the toes and leather soles, made by Parisian designer Rene Mancini. Size 10 shoes show some scuffing and wear to heels. Very good overall. Provenance from James H. Boyer, Sr., U.S. Capitol Police Officer and Kennedy chauffeur.

Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Signed Copy of ”The President’s House: A History In Two Volumes” — Elegant Set Inscribed, Signed and Gifted By the Clintons to the Fords — One of Just 1500

Bill, Hilary and Chelsea Clinton signed set of ”The President’s House: A History In Two Volumes” by William Seale. Published by the White House Historical Association: Washington, D.C.: 1986. Bill Clinton’s autograph dedication in his hand reads, ”To President and Mrs. Ford, / With thanks for your wonderful / hospitality on this beautiful Colorado weekend / Bill Clinton”. Also signed ”Hillary Rodham Clinton / 8/15/93” and ”Chelsea Clinton” above a printed statement indicating this is number 397 of an edition limited to 1500 copies.

Captain Kangaroo’s 1955-1971 Screen-Worn Navy Blue Suit — With the Kangaroo-Pocket Jacket That Inspired the Name

Captain Kangaroo classic navy blue suit screen-worn by Bob Keeshan from the early years of the program. In fact, the jacket is credited with inspiring the Kangaroo moniker due to its oversized pockets. The grandfatherly Captain delighted viewers with surprises or carrots for Bunny Rabbit produced from the giant pockets. Prior to the red suit jacket, Captain Kangaroo wore navy blue for the first 17 seasons of the series. Custom suit includes single-breasted jacket with four brass nautical-style buttons and grey trim in approximate size 40, with a pair of navy blue trousers with matching trim in approximate size 38 x 28.
