Michael Jackson Memorabilia

4 billion people and counting have shared the exact same 13-minute-and-43-seconds that since 1982, have continued to rock the music world and define the man, the myth, the legend —

Said Jackson, who was just 25 years-old when the epic “Thriller” video was made,

“It was a delicate thing to work on because I remember my original approach was, ‘How do you make zombies and monsters dance without it being comical?’ So I said, ‘We have to do just the right kind of movement so it doesn’t become something that you laugh at.'”

Filmed around L.A., the video was shot at the Palace Theatre in downtown Los Angeles, with the zombie dance sequence at the junction of Union Pacific Avenue and South Calzona Street in East L.A.

Combine that with the memorable “darkness falls across the land / The midnight hour is close at hand” voice-over by Actor Vincent Price, and Jackson had made a surefire hit.

With a film-like quality to the video, “Thriller” broke ground in the music industry and in 2009, was inducted into the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress, as the first music video to ever receive this honor for being culturally and historically significant.

We’ve auctioned our  fair share of one-of-a-kind Michael Jackson memorabilia auction items in the past year, like his famous glove, encrusted with Swarvoski beading, accompanied by an autograph attesting to the authenticity of the glove: “My original glove / Love / M.J*”.

It sold for an incredible $199,069!

And in our upcoming auction next week, we have a famous piece of Michael Jackson auction memorabilia: the MTV Moonman Award for MJ’s “Thriller.” It’s truly the most iconic MTV award ever offered for sale, particularly as it’s from the first-ever MTV Video Music Awards Ceremony in 1984 at Radio City Hall in NYC.

MTV Moonman Award

It was awarded in the category of “Viewer’s Choice”, and was a hit at the premiere award show, also winning “Best Choreography” and “Best Overall Performance”. The award is historic to MJ’s career and MTV alike for honoring music videos for the first time.

We’re also auctioning Jackson’s personally owned white sequin glove, similar to the one we auctioned prior, though in the most widely recognized white color. Certainly no other item was used so inventively and exclusively by Jackson in his fashion statements however, and worn so proudly than the single white rhinestone glove, worn on his right hand. Of the glove’s singularity, Jackson told Barbara Walters in a 1999 interview, ”Why one glove? Cooler than two.”

The off-white cloth glove is encrusted heavily with iridescent crystal beading and features a single snap closure.

The glove includes extensive provenance from the man to whom Jackson gifted the glove in 1984, his personal artist Paul Bedard. Bedard was commissioned by Jackson to collaborate on the creation of over a dozen now readily recognizable original works of art for Jackson’s home and his Neverland Ranch estate.

Included additionally are images of the art and photocopies of Jackson’s handwritten notes to Bedard regarding the development of the commissioned pieces, juxtaposed with copies of snapshots of Jackson and the artist; one photo shows Bedard wearing the glove circa 1984 before delivering the finished painting to Michael.

Accompanied by an original 2005 typed declaration signed by Bedard attesting to the authenticity of the glove and its ownership.

Two items tantamount to the MJ canon. Enjoy the Michael Jackson memorabilia.
