Rare original printing of ''PALESTINE Statement of Policy'', more commonly known as the ''White Paper of 1939'', the official governing policy of Britain towards Palestine during and after WWII, until the United Nations took over in 1948. London: His Majesty's Stationery Office, May, 1939. In this 12pp. booklet ''Presented by the Secretary of State for the Colonies to Parliament'', the proposed governing policy towards Palestine is put forth, which was heavily influenced not only by the three-year long Arab revolt in Palestine, but more recently by the failed London Conference between Arabs and Jews in March of 1939. Within the White Paper, the intention of creating ''a national home for the Jewish people'' is stated, with an independent Palestine to be established within 10 years governed jointly by Arabs and Jews. Jewish immigration is also delineated, limited to 75,000 over five years, with subsequent numbers dependent upon Arab consent. The policy, officially adopted by the British government on 23 May 1939, was almost immediately rejected by both Arab and Jewish groups. Booklet measures 6'' x 9.5'', bound with two staples. Minor toning and small stain near spine, overall very good condition.
