Large color lithograph of ''Prince Valiant'' signed by its creator Hal Foster. Limited edition is #11 of 100, with King Features Syndicate blind-stamped seal from 1978 when it was produced. The lithograph shows Val in front of his castle with insets of scenes throughout his life. Accompanied by a typed letter by Hal Foster on the origins of the Prince Valiant mythology: ''The Prince Valiant story is hung upon a background of historical fact...Fifty years of history have been compressed into about six (Artistic License.) Val's life story has been planned from childhood to old age. The adventures and episodes that fill out these frameworks are stolen from all the best authors (who do not sue me for plagerism [sic] for they think I borrow from the sources they stole from in the first place.)...I write and illustrate Prince Valiant for my own satisfaction...I am extremely grateful that there are so many people, beside myself, who like my work. Hal Foster''. Letter marked ''Copy'' measures 8.5'' x 11''. Lithograph measures 21.25'' x 28.5'', framed to 23'' x 30.75''. Wood frame has some nicks but lithograph is near fine.
