Two Al Capp letters signed. It appears Capp began typing a letter, switched to writing the letter by hand, and then had the letter completely typed on a separate sheet. Upon Li'l Abner stationery, Capp encourages a fan: ''Dear Hugh, Your work shows definite talent and strength, but before you are ready for the highly competitive art world of the USA, you need considerable practise [sic]. It is not really necessary to go to a formal art school - if you are unable to. Constant drawing at home, by yourself, will give you everything an art school can give you. I would suggest that you get a good anatomy book (art anatomy) and master the construction of the figure, supplementing that with drawing your friends, both figure and portrait. Also I would suggest you study the pen technique of sports artists that you admire...Al Capp''. Partially typed letter has been signed ''Al'' multiple times in addition to the full signature. Both single-page signed letters measure 8.5'' x 11''. Toning and creasing, else near fine. From the Al Capp estate.
