Truman Capote's personal straw hat, reportedly his favorite and worn by him on the cover of ''People'' magazine in 1976. Hat is size Medium, made by the Golden Gato Hat Co. of Los Angeles with a satin interior band. Hat was given to Los Angeles Police Commissioner Steve Soboroff by Joanne Carson at whose home Capote lived when he passed away in 1984. Accompanied by Soboroff's LOA as well as a photo of Carson sitting in front of Capote's typewriter, and photos of Capote's bedroom, with the hat visible on his night table. Light wear and a few small spots, overall very good condition.
