Thomas Danforth autograph manuscript signed, datelined Cambridge, 10 April 1690 when he served as Deputy Governor of Massachusetts. Danforth is well known for having questioned several of the alleged Salem witches, including Elizabeth Proctor who was convicted, and is believed to have opposed putting the women on trial. Here, only a few years before the infamous Trials, Danforth handwrites a notice regarding the guardianship of an orphan. Document reads in part, ''...you are to take notice...on behalf of Joseph Mowery Orphan...said Mowery may be admitted the choyse of his guardian, in order to his future settle'mt...Tho: Danforth''. Single page measures approximately 7.75'' x 5.75''. Folds and minor age wear, overall very good plus condition with bold handwriting.
