Theodore Roosevelt signed limited first edition of his ''African Game Trails. An Account of the African Wanderings of an American Hunter-Naturalist''. New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1910. Roosevelt elegantly signs volume I on the limitation page, with this copy designated as #23 of 500. Bound in original three-quarter tan pigskin, with deckled edges, large octavo book measures 6.75'' x 10'', containing dozens of photographs, photogravures, drawings, and a map.
Photogravures were done by Kermit Roosevelt and other members of the expedition, and drawings completed by Philip R. Goodwin. This work was the result of Roosevelt's ten-month hunting trip through central and northern Africa, begun after leaving the White House in March 1909. Set was issued in two volumes, with this containing volume I only. Cracking to leather spine, separation starting to hinges, more so to front and with previous owner's inscription to front free pastedown. Minor wear and foxing to interior. In better condition than usually found with leather binding still intact. Very good condition.
