Stan Laurel letter signed, with interesting content on his health and his critique of the 34th Academy Awards hosted by Bob Hope. Dated 11 April 1962 on Oceana Apartment Hotel stationery, Laurel writes to a pen pal, Bill Brown, in part, ''Sorry to hear your Mother is diabetic...maybe she'd prefer the Pill type formula, I tried that out a few months ago, but unfortunately they did'nt work for me, so had to continue with the insulin shots every day. I've recently been having spells of weakness, Dr. says its [sic] due to fluctuating blood pressure, he gave me some pills which has helped me a lot. Note you picked Sophia Loren for an award - I saw the show, thought it was in all a pretty dull affair, no glamor or excitement n evidence, Bob Hope was the bright spot of the evening as usual, otherwise it was most uninteresting. I'd liked to have seen Buster Keaton throwing that pie at the announcer.! Enclosed is a snapshot of Mrs L & myself taken aboard the R.M.S. 'Queen Mary' in I948, en route from Southampton to New York...[signed] Stan Laurel''. Single page letter measures 5.5'' x 8.5''. Folds, else near fine. With original envelope.
