Astronomer and mathematician Simon Newcomb autograph letter signed, dated 9 June 1882. Newcomb signs, ''S. Newcomb'' in black ink. The letter refers to a body of work that would become his major accomplishment three years later: ''Newcomb's Tables of the Sun.'' It reads, ''...I expect in two or three years...to finish a complete investigation of all the valuable recalculations made in various parts of the world from 1750 to the present time...'' This two page card style letter measures 7.75'' x 9.75''. Near fine condition.
