Charming artwork by comics pioneer Sheldon Mayer, creator of ''Sugar and Spike'', ''Scribbly'', ''Black Orchid'' and several other comic strips populating comic books during its Golden Age. In this colorful sketch measuring 10'' x 14'', Mayer sits at his drawing table, with various characters imploring him to get them jobs at a newspaper, with one saying, ''I'm twice as good as Orphan Annie any day in th' week!''. Signed ''Sheldon Mayer'' at bottom. Discreet horizontal fold at center, light wear, and pinholes along margins, with one resulting in small amount of paper loss at top. Overall very good condition with bright coloring. From the Sheldon Mayer estate.
