Original artwork by author and illustrator Shel Silverstein, here drawn within a signed first edition of his children's poetry book ''Falling Up''. New York: Harper Collins, 1996. Silverstein's sketch appears on the verso of the half-title page, showing a young boy (perhaps Silverstein himself) trying to escape a giant No. 2 pencil that's erasing his hair. The pencil is controlled by a giant hand next to a giant beanstalk. Silverstein writes a humorous inscription next to the sketch: ''For Makayla now you know how I lost my hair. Love - Shel Silverstein''. Book measures 7'' x 9'', bound in publisher's black cloth boards with silver lettering and housed in original dust jacket. Light wear and ''To Matt'' written on a subsequent page, overall very good to near fine condition.
