Privately printed copy of ''Faust'' by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, printed by Abraham Hayward, whose translation into English was considered the best interpretation of ''Faust'' ever done and preceded the official printing by a year. London: Hayward, 1833. Presentation copy is inscribed by Hayward on the front free endpaper, ''...presented, with the highest respect, by the Translator / A.H.''. Hayward also writes ''not published'' on the title page and hand-corrects pages lviii, 16, 192, 209, and 246. Measures 5.75'' x 8.75''. Sunning to spine, light soiling and cracking to hinges. Overall a very good, scarce copy.
