Smith signs below his image, ''S.F. Smith''. A Baptist minister, Smith wrote the lyrics for ''America'' as a young man at the Andover Theological Academy in the early 1830s. With Boston photographer's backstamp of ''J.J. Hawes'' upon verso. CDV measures 2.5'' x 4.25''. Very good to near fine condition. With a University Archives COA.
