Marked ''Private'', Hayes writes to editor and philanthropist Edward Bok: ''...Aside from my habit in regard to writing for the press I am not sure that I agree with you on the main question...the elevation of the ignorant and offensive is the first and chief end. To various enterprises having that in view I give much time, and I hope some efficient aid...'' signed ''R.B.Hayes''. Single page letter measures 5.5'' x 8.5''. Near fine.
