Beautiful limited edition signed presentation copy of ''Steeple Bush'', with an autograph poem signed by Robert Frost within. New York: Henry Holt and Company, 1947, number 58 of the limited edition of 751 copies. Unique to this presentation copy is his poem, ''In the Long Night'', handwritten and signed by Frost in blue fountain pen on the front free endpaper. Poem reads in full,
''In the Long Night
I would build my house of crystal
With a solitary friend
Where the cold cracks like a pistol
And the needle stands on end.
We would pour oil on the ingle
And for want of books recite.
We would crawl out filing single
To observe the Northern Light.
If Etookashoo and Couldlooktoo
The Esquimaux should call,
There would be fish raw and cooked too
And enough drink oil for all.
As one rankly warm insider
To another I would say
We can rest assured on eider
There will come another day.

Bound in sage green boards, with a gilt illustration to the front cover, book is housed in the publisher's glassine dust jacket and matching sage green slipcase, measuring 6.5'' x 9.875''. Delicate glassine jacket has paper loss to spine, and mild wear to slipcase. Book is near fine. Accompanied by a photo of the recipient playing baseball with Frost and Ted Morrison, as noted on verso.
