Rare William McKinley autograph letter signed as President, on First Lady Ida McKinley's personal Executive Mansion letterhead imprinted with her initials. Undated but likely circa 1899. Written by McKinley on behalf of First Lady Ida (who was ill at the time and remained in poor health after the death of their two daughters in infancy), letter is addressed to their niece, Kittie Endsley, and sends congratulations on her impending marriage. In part: ''...Mrs. McKinley asks me to acknowledge the receipt of your recent letter announcing your coming marriage and to express her regret which I share...She says she is not able to get out & look up a wedding gift...so she sends you a check to use in your own way...'' McKinley signs, ''Yours truly, William McKinley''. Letter measures 5.5'' x 6.75'' on two pages in a card-style fold out, with a 1'' separation at the horizontal fold of page two and some light soiling throughout. Very good condition.
