Proclamation of George IV's ascendancy to the throne signed by Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington as Commander in Chief of the British Army. The document, dated 31 January 1820, was sent by the Privy Council to the Mayor of the City and County of Bristol to spread the news of George's ascendency. Signed ''Wellington'', and countersigned by ''C. Cantaur'', ''Westmoreland'', ''George Canning'', ''Melville'' and others. A seal is affixed to the upper left. Single page document is outlined in black to mourn George III, and measures 8'' x 12.5''. Toning and creasing with adhesive to verso. Very good.
