Woodrow Wilson signed military commission as President, appointing Richard R. Pickering to Captain on Infantry. Wilson approves the appointment on 27 July 1916, nine months before America's entry into WWI, and a year into the Preparedness movement after the sinking of the RMS Lusitania. Stunning vellum document is signed ''Woodrow Wilson'' at lower right, countersigned by the Secretary of War. Blue War Department seal is fully intact. Measures 15.75'' x 19.75''. Light toning and creasing, but overall an unusually well-preserved document in vintage, near fine condition.
