Florida voting machine used in Palm Beach County in the 2000 Presidential election. Portable voting machine is transported in a briefcase which contains all the pieces for assembly, including aluminum legs and blinders to protect the voter's anonymity. Complete with cord that powers the fluorescent light. Some cracks and small loss to plastic blinders, overall very good condition. Also present is a 2000 Presidential election ballot from a county in Ohio.
Palm Beach County, Florida was the eye of the hurricane in the 2000 Presidential election, with its use of ''butterfly'' ballots believed to have inadvertently pulled votes away from Al Gore. The vote in Florida so close that a recount was ordered and then halted by the U.S. Supreme Court via Bush v. Gore, thereby making George W. Bush President, who secured by the state by a mere 537 votes. In addition to the Palm Beach County butterfly ballots, punch-card ballots used throughout the state, which resulted in hanging chads, were criticized as poorly designed and leading to the problems with voting in the state.
