A dozen pieces of Napoleon III's royal china service. As the imperious nephew of Napoleon Bonaparte, Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte staged a coup in 1851 to become the sole ruler of France, Napoleon III. Tuileries Palace, now the Louvre museum and Tuileries Gardens, became his primary residence as well as the location of the executive branch of government. In the center of each piece of this china, Napoleon III's seal and monogram ''N'' appear in gilt. Rim of each dish is decorated with a gilt band, with years of 1857 and 1859 marked beneath. Varied collection of 12 items includes: two shuttle boats measuring 10.5'' x 4.5'' and 1.5'' in height; two gravy boats measuring 10'' x 3.5'', one post with handle re-attached; two fruit bowls on pedestals measuring 10.5'' in diameter and 6'' in height; a sugar pot with lid missing, measuring 8'' in diameter and 4.5'' in height; a salad bowl measuring 10'' in diameter and 4'' in height; two low-stemmed fruit plates measuring 8.5'' in diameter and 2.5'' in height; and two low saucers measuring 9.5'' in diameter and 2.5'' in height. Fading to a few of the ''N'' monograms, else near fine.
