Muhammad Ali boxing hand wrap worn and signed as Cassius Clay, from 1958 when the young 16-year old was on the verge of winning two U.S. National Championships and Olympic gold during his amateur career. Post brand hand wrap is inscribed to James, a friend of Clay's in Louisville, Kentucky, in black ink, ''To James / Your Friend always / Cassius Clay 19-58'', with Clay using the C in Cassius to underline his name. Wrap measures 83.5'' long including tails, and 2'' wide, accompanied by photos of Ali wearing similar wraps. Lot also includes two COAs from authenticator Craig Hamilton and noted Ali collector Peter Morkovin, who gives more background on the piece. Lastly, lot includes three other wraps, and a molar guard which has ''C. Clay'' written on the box, ostensibly belonging to Clay, all acquired at the same time as the wrap in 1958. Slight discoloration to parts of wrap (not affecting signature), and part of Clay's writing on the wrap is light, but overall in very good condition and very readable as Cassius Clay's signature.
