Academy Award winner and bestselling author Mary Astor lot of 16 letters signed. All letters are handwritten by Astor to her agent Gloria Sefier, with the exception of one which is typed. Each dates to 1960, 1961 or 1962 and all are signed ''Mary'', with the exception of one ALS which is signed ''Mary Astor''. Naturally, her career is the most frequent focus of her correspondences to Sefier. After having enjoyed an uncommonly successful Hollywood career that began in the silent era, she becomes disenchanted with the demanding schedules of film and TV, requesting work in commericals and voiceovers instead, and keeping tabs on her book royalties from her publisher Doubleday. She writes of her role in the 1961 film ''Return to Peyton Place'': ''...I have a week off from 'Peyton Place' as the company is on location...I figure it might be pleasant to do a show without the usual pressures of TV. Hah! Same pressures only more of it. I'm batty...'' She mentions her book ''The Image of Kate,'' and complains about the slowness of advances. In a sarcastic moment, she notes, ''...I was a C-minus student in Greek, so I don't dig Doubleday's statements at all...'' Documents vary in size from 5'' x 4'' to 8.5'' x 11''. All but one of the letters exceeding 1pp. in length are on separate sheets. Light toning; very good plus condition.
