MGM paperweight in the form of a metal lion sculpture. Copper sculpture in the round is nicely detailed with mouth open as if preparing to give the famous MGM roar. The lion has been the mascot of MGM and familiar opening credit to all its pictures, even cartoons since 1924. The logo was originally designed by Lionel S. Reiss, art director at Paramount Studios. Since then a total of 7 different lions have starred in the clip. Lion stands on a base made to resemble rock, on a rectangular base embossed, ''Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Lion / The Greatest Star on the Screen''. Measures 5'' x 3.25'' x 2.5''. Weighs 1 pound, 6 ounces. Some abrasions to the lion's back and tarnishing, else near fine.
