MGM door knocker in the form of a lion's head. Brass fixture features the face and mane of the famous Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in relief as its plate, surrounded by a hinged ring with rope and stylized Florian cross decorations. The lion has been the mascot of MGM and familiar opening credit to all its pictures, even cartoons since 1924. The logo was originally designed by Lionel S. Reiss, art director at Paramount Studios. Since then a total of 7 different lions have starred in the clip. A small plate on the top of the knocker is engraved, ''MGM Studio / Property / Culver City Cal''. Measures 8'' in diameter. Weighs 3 pounds, 9 ounces. Some tarnishing, else near fine.
