Lot of items personally owned by Mercury 7 and Apollo 1 astronaut Gus Grissom, all consigned from his estate and with LOAs from his son. Lot includes:
1. Holograph check signed and handwritten by Gus Grissom. Dated 18 May 1965, check for $2,000 to Performance Unlimited is signed ''Virgil I. Grissom'' at lower right. Measures 6.25'' x 2.75''. Bank cancellation marks, else near fine.
2. Gus Grissom's personally owned textbook, ''Strength of Materials'', with ''GRISSOM'' handwritten in block letters on front free endpaper. Owned by Grissom during his schooling at the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School in 1956, as evidenced by a typed sheet taped to front pastedown regarding details of the class. With numerous calculations in pencil on rear pastedown, likely in Grissom's hand. Book measures 6.5'' x 9.5''. Very good plus condition.
3. Gus Grissom's personally owned Inflatable Life Preserver (LPU), likely worn by Grissom as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force, with date of manufacture stamp on strap reading December 1957. Unopened LPU features two preservers measuring approximately 5.5'' x 8.5'', attached by a harness. Grissom would have worn this when flying over water.
4. Large lot of NASA manuals and pull-out schematics personally owned by Gus Grissom. Approximately 15 documents including report titled ''Apollo Test Flow Study Group'' and ''Spacecraft Test Time''. Very good condition.
