Attractive political appointment signed by Queen Anne whose short, five year reign produced a limited number of signed documents that have survived into the 21st century. This document, bright and well-preserved, appoints Thomas Stanwise to Lieutenent Governor of Carlisle. Datelined Court of St. James, 5 April 1705, vellum manuscript document is signed in the upper margin ''Anne R.'' and coutersigned by C. Hedges and two others. Stamps and seals intact. 15.5'' x 11''. Near fine considering age, with usual folds and some light soiling.
