Intriguing document signed by Rutherford B. Hayes as President, appointing a ''Richard B. Nixon'' to Notary Public for the District of Columbia. Beautiful, partly printed document is signed ''R.B. Hayes'' and countersigned by Secretary of State William M. Evarts. Dated 17 January 1881. Single page measures 19'' x 15.25'', with white paper seal in fine condition. Intersecting folds, light toning, a few stray pencil marks and mounting tape to the verso. Department of Justice stamp to upper left. Overall in very good to near fine condition.
