Abraham Hargis autograph letter signed as keeper of the famous Cape Henlopen Lighthouse in colonial Delaware. He datelines it Lighthouse, 10 January 1784. The letter reads in part: ''Col. Gurney, Sir, after I had closed my other Letters I found it necessary to go on Boarde the Vessel & Exammin hir...I should be glad to kno the weight of the Cotton week you send at any time. I am afraid thur is sum of it taken By the disproportion of the Balls. Sum good stout ones Sum not Biger than a large goos egg. They weigh four & 1/2 Sharp weight. I am Sir Your Hbl servt / Abrm Hargis / PS Please to not forget the dog as I am dayly experiencing the Loss of sumthing or other Last Knight I lost 2 turkeys''. Single-page letter measures 6.5'' x 8''. Toning and creasing. Very good.
