Oliver Ellsworth document signed the year of his involvement as a member in the Continental Congress. Here, as a member of the Connecticut Pay Table Committee, he signs a document datelined Hartford, Connecticut, 16 August 1777. He was also appointed Connecticut's state attorney for Hartford County the same year. The single-page document to Connecticut Treasurer John Lawrence asks that he pay nine shillings to Mr. Henry Morriss, ''...for bringing four of the Journals of Congress for...use of the State...'' The Journals of Congress were records of the first Congressional sessions ever held in the U.S. Included in the lot is an etching of Ellsworth. Measures 8'' x 6.25''. Toning and chipping to edges with a small area of separation to a fold intersection near the upper left. In very good condition.
