Queen Victoria signs an army commission, dated 5 April 1855, during the British involvement in the Crimean War. The Queen appoints Charles Lloyd Edwards to the rank of ''...Major in Our Army in Turkey while employed in the Turkish Contingent Force...'' She signs in the upper left corner above an intact blindstamped seal. Secretary of War, The Lord Panmure countersigns the commission at the lower right. A one pound, ten shilling stamp is affixed to the left edge. Lot includes an envelope addressed to Major Edwards. Document is silked on verso. Moderate soiling and creasing to document and envelope, with separation at folds, not affecting signature. Overall very good.
