The original Oscar awarded in 1945 to Ernst Fegte for "Best Art Direction" in the 1944 Paramount Pictures film "Frenchman’s Creek" starring Joan Fontaine and Arturo de Cordova. Fegte was nominated for three more art direction Oscars, but this is his singular win. Two engraved plaques are placed on opposite sides of the medal base. The front reads, "Academy First Award / To / Ernst Fegte / For Color Art Direction of / 'Frenchmans Creek'". The other reads, "Academy of / Motion Pictures / Arts and Sciences / First Award / 1945". The Dodge manufacturing plaque is affixed to the very bottom of the base. The figure and film reel, composed of gold-plated britannium measuring 10.25" tall, top the pedestal, bringing the total height to 13". The pedestal's diameter measures 5.25" and the award weighs 6 pounds, 7 ounces. Some mild tarnishing to statue, primarily to the feet area of the figure, though overall the finish remains brilliant. In very good plus condition.
