Silver winner's medal from the XVII Olympiad, won at the 1960 games in Rome, Italy for canoeing. Medal is still encased in its original bronze bezel, as issued, with the sport ''Canoa'' engraved along the bottom. Designed by Giuseppe Cassioli, the 1960 Rome Olympic medals feature the Goddess of Victory holding a winner's crown on the reverse, with ''Giochi Della XVII Olimpiade Roma MCMLX'' engraved, along with the ''800'' purity mark as called for and the maker's mark of Artistice Fiorentini. The front features an image in relief of an Olympic champion being carried by his compatriots. Measures 55 mm in diameter without bezel and approximately 68 mm with bezel; weighs approximately 105 grams. Near fine condition.
