Albert Einstein typed postcard signed, dated 13 January 1930 and postmarked 14 January 1930 from Charlottenburg, Berlin, Germany. Einstein writes to Dr. Eduard Singer in German, telling him to ''Please feel free to keep the letters addressed to me'' and also extending him best wishes in his new occupation. Signed ''A. Einstein''.
Letters in ''The Collected Papers of Albert Einstein'' detail the history of Einstein's relationship with Singer, who reached out to Einstein in November 1929 asking for help in securing a U.S. visa. As an assistant on the medical faculty at the University of Zurich, Singer wrote that he suffered insults at work, such as being called a ''dirty Jew'', and feared he would lose his job which would result in him having to move back to Hungary. Upon hearing his story, Einstein helped Singer relocate to the United States, one of hundreds of Jews whom Einstein helped during the 1930s. A few months later, in May 1930, Singer had settled in Brooklyn and sent a letter to Einstein, thanking him for his help. Facing persecution himself, Einstein permanently left Germany in 1933 and moved to Princeton.
