World War II German General Franz Halder typed letter signed, dated 29 April 1966. The high ranking German general often disagreed with Hitler and, after the assassination attempt on the Fuhrer, Halder landed in Dachau. He replies to a Mr. Durber from his home in Aschau im Chiemgau. German letter reads in part, ''...for me the most difficult problem was not the military leadership but the enervating fight with Hitler. If the leading generals had had the power of decision there would have been no war. However, the decision to fight a war is a political factor. The legally elected political Fuhrer Hitler wanted the war, because in his imagination there was no other means to achieve his political goals...all I could do was to try to prevent decisive military mistakes by objecting constantly. Hitler's stubbornness made that impossible...'' He signs, ''Franz Halder''. Moderate creasing to 8'' x 11.5'' single page letter and separation at folds. Overall very good. Accompanied by full translation.
