Albert Einstein signed limited edition of the very collectible work, ''Albert Einstein: Philosopher Scientist''. Evanston: The Library of Living Philosophers Inc., 1949. Signed ''Albert Einstein. 49.'' upon the limitation page, underneath its identification as #547 in the limited edition of 760. Volume consists of 25 essays written by notable scientists reflecting on Einstein's work, including Louis de Broglie, Max Born, Gaston Bachelard and Niels Bohr, the latter writing about the famous Einstein-Bohr debates.
Opening the book is the chapter ''Einstein's Autobiography'', comprising nearly 100 pages in both English and German, with Einstein considering his work and legacy and expressing his pithy wit by writing that he feels like he is writing his own funeral oration. Abraham Pais, the physicist and science historian wrote that it was the ''closest Einstein ever came to writing an autobiography''. Bound in publisher's faux leather boards with gilt embellishments and top edge gilt, book measures 6.5'' x 9.75'' and runs 781 pages, housed in slipcase. Exceptionally well preserved, in near fine condition.
