Apollo 14 space-flown heel restraints worn by astronaut Stuart Roosa in the Command Module during mission liftoff on 31 January 1971. These pair of restraints are made of brown Velcro secured to a metal plate with the typed NASA label reading on each: ''Heel Restraint R.H. / BW-1053-002 / S/N: 1141 / Date of Mfg: 8/21/69 / Mfg. by: B. Welson Co.'' Part number matches the Apollo 14 Stowage List, a copy of which is included here.
Also included is a Letter of Authenticity signed by Roosa's daughter, Rosemary Roosa, reading in part, ''RE: Flown Left and Right Heel Restraints on Apollo 14. Heel restraints were used by the Apollo astronauts to secure their feet in place during the violent early stages of the Saturn V launch to prevent injury...These two heel restraints were used by Apollo 14 Astronaut & Command Module Pilot, Col. Stuart 'Stu' Roosa...I certify that these items are authentic.''
Metal plate of each heel restraint measures 4.125'' x 3.125''. Near fine condition. Housed in custom wooden box with the Apollo 14 mission insignia on lid.
