Millard Fillmore autograph letter signed, dated 6 April 1840, to R.H. Allen, Esq. Letter reads, ''Yours enquiring whether there is any reason to hope for appropriations for Western harbors is received. I regret to say that I think there is no ground for any hope. Every proposition of the kind has been voted down by decided majorities in both Houses. Respectfully yours / Millard Fillmore''. Fillmore served in the House until 1843 and became President ten years after writing this letter. Light soiling and archival repair to folds of 8'' x 9.75'' letter, else very good plus.
