Martin Luther King, Jr. signed program for the 1965 Peace and Freedom Award ceremony. Program is signed on front cover by King, without inscription, ''Best Wishes / Martin Luther King''. Hosted by the Davenport Catholic Interracial Council on 28 April 1965, the Pacem in Terris Peace and Freedom Award honors the solemn recognition of the personal dignity of every human being, according to The Holy See. In his acceptance speech at the event that night, King delivered a powerful speech urging for ''massive action programs...picketing when necessary, demonstrating when necessary, marching when necessary-all undergirded with the philosophy of non-violence we can bring the American dream into full reality...'' Program measures 5.5'' x 8.625'' and runs 15 pages. Light staining to cover, else near fine.
