Society of Cincinnati document signed by George Washington, conferring membership in the exclusive Society available only to Revolutionary War officers and their eldest male heirs. Washington here confers membership to Benjamin Ledyard. Document is dated 10 December 1785, signed ''Go: Washington'' as President of the Society, countersigned by Henry Knox, who would later serve as Secretary of War under Washington. Vellum document is mounted to board measuring 20.375'' x 14.25'', with decorative vignettes including the Society of Cincinnati seal. Moderate soiling typical of vellum, with a large and prominent signature by Washington, remarkably not enhanced. Overall good plus condition. Society of Cincinnati documents are some of the most coveted manuscripts signed by Washington. With University Archives COA.
