Albert Einstein signed page from the guest book of Hebrew College in Havana, dated 19 December 1930 during Einstein's brief two-day visit to Cuba, the only time he visited the country. Einstein was an early proponent of Jewish universities, knowing that Jews were often excluded from institutions of higher learning. This page is a fine and very early example of such support, with Einstein's handwritten portion reading in full, ''Dec. 19 30 A. Einstein Berlin''. Page measures 9'' x 11.875'', with ''Registro De Visitantes'' printed at top and ''Colegio Hebrew del Centro Israeleta de Cuba'' handwritten. Age wear with light creasing and discoloration. Small split to center fold. Overall in very good condition.
Other entries on the sheet include well-known dignitaries and Zionists of the early 20th century. Signatures include: Dr. Abraham Coralnik, editor of ''The Day'' newspaper; Emanuel Celler, the longest serving Congressman in New York state history; Morris Fishman, Vice President of the Detroit Life Insurance Co. and spokesperson for United Jewish Campaign; Nathan Borin of Borin Brothers Co.; Rabbi Louis J. Victor Eppstein; Rabbi I. Edward Kiev, Head Librarian, Hebrew Union College; Oscar Lopez; Simon Eisenberg; Herman Chervony, board member of Centro Israelita de Cuba; Oscar Gutierrez; Franco Goires. Accompanied by a full list of signatures with additional details.
