Very scarce Type I ''Earthrise'' photo, signed by Apollo 8 Mission Commander Frank Borman, who also writes a Christmas passage from the historic mission. This Earthrise photo is one of the most collectible NASA images, the first such view of Earth from space, taken during the Apollo 8 mission which was the first to leave Earth's low orbit as it traveled to the Moon and back over Christmas from 21-27 December 1968. Borman here writes a passage from the famous Christmas Eve lunar broadcast that mesmerized the world, ''From Apollo 8 good night, Merry Christmas and God Bless all on Earth / Frank Borman - / Apollo 8 CDR''. Photo is slabbed by PSA as Type I from 1968, with NASA press release to verso. Borman inscription and signature are penned in fine silver felt-tip, with Novaspace COA. Photo measures 10'' x 8'', encapsulated to 13.25'' x 9.75''. Very good to near fine condition. Extremely rare, perhaps the only such handwritten Type I photo extant.
